Fruit And Nut: Another 'Bombay' controversy brewing?

Karan Johar had to apologise recently to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray for the use of word 'Bombay' in his film Wake Up Sid but, it seems, that wasn't a lesson for the producer of Fruit And Nut who has repeated it in his upcoming movie.

In Fruit And Nut, 'Bombay' has been used prominently in its promos. The entire film is based on the premise of a man calling himself the 'King of Bombay'.

In one such promo of the film, the lead character - played by Boman Irani - makes an entry sitting on a chair.

The promo is sure to make Raj see red. In the film, Irani calls himself the 'Maharaja of Bombay'. Irani's character, called Maharaja Harry Holkar, insists on calling the city either Bombay or Bambai.

"Mujhe mera Bambai (Bombay) wapas chahiye (I want my Bombay back)," says Irani in the promo.

Bombay might be okay for Holkar, but it could spell trouble for the film's producers as it happened with Karan Johar's Wake Up Sid for which he had to apologise to Raj after the latter's abusive language as the reaction to the use of "Bombay".

After that episode Raj had issued a terse warning to all film-makers in an interview with Headlines Today wherein the firebrand leader had said, "Film-makers only understand language of violence."

But some would argue it was only a case of bad timing for Karan Johar. It suited Raj to make an example of him because Johar is a big name. Otherwise, there have been other films in which 'Bombay' has been used.

A case in point is the recent success Qucik Gun Murugan and Sooni Taraporewala's Little Zizou.
