Ben & Jerry's Introduces SNL-Themed Ice Cream

Ben & Jerry's, the company that started an ice cream war between comedians Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon, have introduced two new flavors — Lazy Sunday and Gilly's Catastrophic Crunch — that are inspired by Saturday Night Live sketches. According to the Huffington Post, Lazy Sunday is based on the sketch of the same name that features comedians Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell professing their love for cupcakes. Appropriately, the flavor features both chocolate and yellow cupcake pieces. Ben & Jerry's website notes that the flavor also features a vanilla cake batter base and "a chocolate frosting swirl." Gilly's Catastrophic Crunch has both chocolate and sweet cream ice cream mixed with caramel clusters, fudge-covered almonds, and a marshmallow swirl. The flavor is inspired by the SNL character made famous by actress Kristen Wiig. Both of them sound way better than the (imaginary) Ron Swanson flavor featuring scotch ice cream with bacon and eggs.

The SNL flavors are only being sold in Ben & Jerry's scoop shops and will not be available by the pint in grocery stores. However, those who were hoping to grab a container of SNL-inspired ice cream and eat it while watching SNL sketches, can still do so by getting a pint filled at one of the scoop shops. A press release reveals that Ben & Jerry's will also release two more flavors inspired by the comedy show later this year to "celebrate SNL's official 40th anniversary." Hopefully, they'll revive the Ben & Jerry's truck that basically went around handing out free ice cream in honor of the anniversary.

The Vermont-based ice cream company has a history of creating flavors based on characters. Back in 2011, it released a "Schweddy Balls" flavor also in honor of a SNL sketch. And last year the company created a flavor based on actor Will Ferrell's character Ron Burgundy in the Anchorman movies and another one inspired by actress Tina Fey's character on the show 30 Rock to celebrate the show's finale. The SNL-themed flavors are available at Ben & Jerry's scoop shops across the US and Canada starting today.
