Harry Potter’s longtime US publisher Arthur A. Levine is leaving global children’s publisher Scholastic to form his own independent publishing company.

Scholastic, meanwhile, will continue to publishing J.K. Rowling’s fantasy series in the US, as well as the back catalogue from Levine’s imprint. The imprint, bearing his name, has produced more than 300 fiction, picture, and nonfiction books for children and teens. Levine has been at Scholastic since 1996, where he also published the acclaimed novel The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman, which went on to become a movie that made US$370 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.

The news comes as Scholastic grows its TV slate, putting three new series based on books into development, including Eva the Owlet, Blizz Richards: Legendary Creatures Protection League and Mama Lion. It is also underway on the reboot of Clifford The Big Red Dog, set to land on Amazon Prime Video and PBS Kids this fall.
