Franz explain Green Day tour
Franz Ferdinand
Franz Ferdinand tour the US with Green Day this September

Franz Ferdinand have been speaking about their plans to tour with Green Day later this year.

The Glaswegian band will support Billie Joe and co on a string of US dates beginning in August in Houston, Texas.

Lead singer Alex Kapranos explained the hook up came via a mutual friend.

Speaking to Newsbeat, he said: "It was a friend of mine in Japan, she sent me an email and she said 'My boyfriend's band are really into your band and they want to do some shows with you'."

'Good band'

Kapranos continued: "She goes out with Tre who's the drummer of Green Day. I was like 'Oh, yeah I know those guys'. We met them years ago at the Brit awards, we were both doing the Brits at the same time and we hung out. They seemed like nice guys.

"Some old friends of mine from Glasgow put them on years and years ago when they were a little punk band touring around the country.

"They're a good band, they've definitely paid their dues."
