Many Kindle users are searching for solutions to read epub on Kindle Paperwhite, because Kindle device doesn't support EPUB natively. Fortunately we've found solutions to reading epub on kindle Paperwhite.
Is EPUB compatible with Kindle?
--Kindle Paperwhite only supports reading books purchased from Amazon Kindle store. And these Kindle books are in their exclusive eBook formats, such as kfx, mobi, azw3, azw, etc. Since epub is not Kindle supported ebook format, it cannot be detected in Kindle devices even if it has been transferred to Kindle via usb cable.
--Most of the epub books, such as the books purchased Google Play Books, Kobo, Nook, are protected with DRM protection, which prevent us reading epub files on non-supported readers, such as Kindle paperwhite.
Having found the reasons, the solutions will be easy to find. Since there are limitations between the device and the ebook format, why not change the device's property or the book file's format?
Method 1. Send ePub to Kindle Paperwhite Online
Amazon now allows us to directly send ePub format books to Kindle by web.
Note: The epub you send to kindle should be DRM-free epub files. If your epub files are protected by drm, please skip to method 2 to remove drm from epub books first.
Step 1. Go to Amazon official Send to Kindle Online page (make sure that you already logged into your Amazon account).
Step 2. Click on the yellow button "Select files from device" to upload an ePub file.
Step 3. Select an ePub and add to your library, send.
Step 4. Wait for the ePub file to be sent to Kindle.
Wait until the ePub has been sent across. Once it says “In Library”, you can pick up your kindle to sync and download the newly received file.
1. This method only works for drm free ePub files. If your downloaded ePub books are with drm, please remove ePub drm first.
2. It's likely that the sent ePub files will be with the format displaying issues on your Kindle device.
Method 2. Convert EPUB to Kindle Supported Format
To read ePub on Kindle Paperwhite, the best and simplest way is ebook format conversion. As we all know that Kindle only reads kindle format such as Mobi/AZW3, so how about converting epub to kindle format?
How to convert epub to Kindle ebook format? Kindle ebook converter is a must-have tool. I'm going to introduce 2 effective tools.
Tool 1. Calibre
As an ebook fan, you must have heard of Calibre. This is a free ebook management tool, which helps you convert ebooks from one format to another. So you can use it to convert your epub files to Kindle format.
Download Calibre, and launch it. Then add your downloaded epub books, select them and click on "Convert books" icon. Choose Mobi/AZW3 as your output format.
Notice: To convert DRM-protected EPUB books, please need to install Calibre DRM Removal plugins.

Notice:

2. For some Kobo eBooks they are usually in KEPUB format but not the common ePub, but you still can use Epubor Ultimate to convert kepub to Kindle support format.
After converting your ePub books to Kindle format, transfer the converted files in Kindle-compatible format to your Kindle via a USB cable.
Now you can read epub on Kindle Paperwhite smoothly.
Method 3. Jailbreak Kindle Paperwhite(NOT RECOMMENED)
Jailbreaking Kindle Paperwhite is more suitable to those people who don't want to use Kindle's restricted services. If you are the person who prefer to Android system rather than Kindle, you can try this solution.
You will take high risk to use this method. Please back up everything before jailbreaking your Kindle Paperwhite.
Step 1. Jailbreak Kindle

Step 2. Install epub reader on new Kindle Paperwhite
After successful jailbreaking, you need to install epub reader app to help you open epub books (it means you don't have to convert epub to mobi format).
KOReader--Originally created for usage on Kindle e-ink reader, started as Kindle PDF Viewer. But now it supports epub too. When you open an epub file, it will turn this format book to pdf layout. Please follow the KOReader user guide to know how to.

1. Sending ePub to Kindle is definitely the easiest way to get your ePub files onto Kindle Paperwhite. Remember, you can only send DRM-free ePub books to your Kindle.
