The Division hits 9.5M players while Far Cry Primal sets a February sales record (update)

Both games delivered "stronger-than-expected" performance

Both Tom Clancy's The Division and Far Cry Primal have performed very well for Ubisoft so far, beating expectations with what the publisher characterized in an earnings report as "record-breaking releases."

The Division, which topped Activision's Destiny for the best all-time opening-week sales (in dollars) for a new video game brand, now has 9.5 million registered users. (Alain Martinez, Ubisoft's chief financial officer, cautioned on an investor call that some players may have multiple accounts, so the publisher has not necessarily sold that many copies of the game.)

Ubisoft also touted a "record" attach rate for The Division's season pass — more than 20 percent of players have purchased the $39.99 package, which encompasses three expansions scheduled for release this year. Active users are playing The Division for an average of three hours per day, and 91 percent of the people who were playing four weeks ago are still playing today, according to Ubisoft.

The Division launched in early March, two weeks after Far Cry Primal. Ubisoft said today that the Stone Age open-world title delivered "the best performance ever for a game released in the month of February."

It's unclear if Ubisoft was referring to internal records, or milestones for the entire game industry. We've reached out to the publisher for clarification, and will update this article with any information we receive.

Update: A Ubisoft representative told Polygon that Far Cry Primal's February sales total represents a record for the game industry, not just Ubisoft.

Update 2: The spokesperson indicated that the record attach rate for The Division's season pass applies only to Ubisoft.
