Shawn Mendes is gearing up to drop his second album, Illuminate, at the end of the month, and if the new singles he's been steadily releasing are any indication, you're going to be obsessed. (As if there was any doubt?)

He just debuted a new song, "Mercy," and it will absolutely break your heart. A far cry from the Kanye West track of the same title (and the cat Kim Kardashian named after it, RIP), this is a ballad that swells in all the right places. Backing vocals support Shawn's earnest lyrics, and the guitar and piano accompaniment layer in a way that will instantly hook you in. It's a song that tells the story of a love that hurts, even if you don't want it to. "You've got a hold of me / don't even know your power," he sings, begging you to just love him as he is. By the end of the song, however, your own heart will hurt for his pleas — and if you've ever experienced unrequited love, you'll instantly relate.
