Cartoon Planet was a spinoff show of Space Ghost Coast to Coast (1994-2004), originally airing on Cartoon Network and TBS from 1995 to 1998. It featured Space Ghost as the host, accompanied by Zorak and Brak, who would perform ad-libbed skits and original songs, read fan mail, and introduce some of the cartoons that were featured during its run, including old Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry theatrical shorts and Hanna-Barbera shows (including the original 1960's Space Ghost cartoon).
Several segments included clips from other shows, with the "Count Floyd" segments used from the segments of the same name that originally appeared on The Completely Mental Misadventures of Ed Grimley (1988) and the "Messages From Outer Space" and "Vacation Spots of the Universe" segments borrowing footage from episodes of Ultraseven (1967-1968), a Japanese tokusatsu show which had an English dub produced by Turner in 1985. Additionally, many of the music videos for the songs used footage from cartoons owned by Turner (Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, Hanna-Barbera, etc.).
The voice cast from Coast to Coast returned to reprise their roles, with George Lowe voicing Space Ghost, C. Martin Croker voicing Zorak, and Andy Merrill voicing Brak (Merrill also played Space Ghost in a few live action skits made for the show), and most of the character animation from Coast to Coast was also used for Cartoon Planet.
The show also had three albums produced which contained songs and dialogue sketches from the show: "Modern Music for Swinging Superheroes" in 1996, "Space Ghost's Musical Bar-B-Que" in 1997, and "Space Ghost's Surf and Turf" in 1998.
In later years, some sketches from Cartoon Planet aired on Adult Swim as time filler after episodes of Space Ghost Coast to Coast.
The show has not seen an official home video release (possibly due to licensing issues associated with the footage used in some segments), but several sketches from the show were included as bonus features for a DVD release of The Brak Show (2001-2003), another spinoff of Coast to Coast.
