A worthy read that could do with a little more focus on Heaven's Gate
While the great detail of a producers job is interesting, it is both a strength and flaw. I wanted to read this book to find out more about what happened during Heavens Gate. And while I got just that, there were some tedious moments where business deals of unrelated events go on too long. Especially in the beginning, we don't even get to pre-production until were about 100 pages in. The author definitely piggy-backed his own memoir into the book which sometimes strays too far away from what should be the focus. It's like if you watched behind the scenes interviews for a movie, and then they talk about other movies and business lunches with executives half the time. Again, interesting, but not entirely relevant.
Regardless, it is still very good and worth reading if you want to learn more about the rise and fall of Heaven's Gate.
