After speculation that the shows could be canceled, XPR Augusta organizers announced today that the concert series is officially canceled. Jimmy Buffett was scheduled to perform at the event on April 8th.

From the Augusta Chronicle:

C4 Live managing partners Michael Perry and Greg Costello made the announcement Wednesday in a joint press release, saying “This was an extremely difficult decision for all of us at C4 Live. But it was made with the best interests of our fans, talent, employees, volunteers, sponsors, partners and the community at heart.”

The concert series scheduled for Masters Week would have been housed at Lake Olmstead Stadium, which was being renovated into an entertainment venue with VIP areas. Perry reported in January that the progress was going so well, not only would they be ready by XPR, but they would have all of the extra bells and whistles installed and ready two years ahead of schedule.

But then, earlier this month, construction had been stopped due to soil instability, followed by a stop in ticket sales.

The series would have featured Nelly, Blake Shelton, Pitbull, Tim McGraw and Jimmy Buffett.

Ticket sales have been suspended and the concert is in doubt for Jimmy Buffett’s show on April 8th at XPR Augusta during Master’s week due to structural issues found at the grounds:

WRDW: XPR Augusta suspends ticket sales for concert series

A statement from C4 Live a few weeks ago said it had temporarily suspended event production for the XPR Augusta concerts after encountering a potential structural issue.

The company said the structural problem is not with the stadium but with the grounds.

“The grounds may require significant reinforcement,” a spokeswoman told News 12.

“We have temporarily suspended event production after a potential structural issue was encountered on the stadium grounds,” C4 said after discovering the problem.

“Our production team is coordinating with technical experts to determine the full scope of the issue. We expect to have more information about this issue very soon, and we will share any updates as they are available.”

Brandon Garrett, commissioner for District 8 said: “It’s just part of the growing pains of trying to revitalize an existing property. You’re talking about an issue with the grounds. They’re trying to set up a stage, and the stage is sinking, so obviously they had to stop.”

Jimmy Buffett’s tour stop in Tuscaloosa on June 7th has been canceled according to Ticketmaster and the Tuscaloosa News:

What would have been Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band’s first concert at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater, and his first show in the Druid City since 1992, has been canceled, according to Ticketmaster and Red Mountain Entertainment, the Birmingham-based company that books the venue.

The dropped June 7 Amp date had already been rescheduled once, from a Sept. 14, 2021, gig that was moved to this year, with RME then crediting “scheduling conflicts.”
