Oscar winner Susan Sarandon will make her TV series starring debut in Graves, the first original comedy series from Epix. She will play Margaret Graves, the wife of former U.S. President Richard Graves (Nick Nolte), who decides to follow her own political ambitions just as her husband embarks on a Don Quixote-like journey to right the wrongs of his administration two decades after leaving office.
Sarandon has done plenty of TV during her 35-year career, but Graves will be her first regular gig. She recently appeared on Mike & Molly and 30 Rock, had an arc on The Big C and recurred on Rescue Me. She won a Best Actress Oscar for Dead Man Walking in 1996 on her fifth nomination and has four Emmy noms. It’s the second time Sarandon and Nolte will play spouses, following the 1992 feature Lorenzo’s Oil. She is repped by UTA.
The Lionsgate-produced Graves is one of the two initial original series announced in May by Epix, the premium TV network/VOD service backed by Viacom, Lionsgate, and MGM. The half-hour comedy got a 10-episode straight-to-series order after Deadline reported in February that the deal was imminent. The other project is espionage drama Berlin Station from Paramount TV and Michaël Roskam. Graves was created by Joshua Michael Stern (Swing Vote) who will write, direct and executive produce. Oscar winner Greg Shapiro also will be an executive producer along with Keith Eisner (The Good Wife) and Eric Weinberg (Anger Management). Production on the series is scheduled to begin this fall and premiere in fall 2016.
