Netflix’s The Crown had a royal victory at this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards. Just a year after Schitt’s Creek made history by sweeping all comedy categories at the Emmys for the first time ever, The Crown did the same in all seven drama categories — including the streamer’s first-ever outstanding drama win.

The historical drama scored early wins for writing and directing, with series creator Peter Morgan and director Jessica Hobbs scoring Emmys for the Season 4 episode “War.” Later in the evening, Gillian Anderson (who played Margaret Thatcher) and Tobias Menzies (who played Prince Philip) won the supporting actor categories, while actors Josh O’Connor and Olivia Colman took home lead actor and actress for their roles as Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth II, respectively.

The Crown previously took home four trophies at the Creative Arts Emmys last weekend, including awards for casting, cinematography, editing, and guest actress (for former star Claire Foy).

The show’s fourth season followed the British royal family from 1979 to 1990, and featured the introduction of well-known historical figures like Thatcher and Lady Diana Spencer (played by Emma Corrin, who was also nominated in the lead actress category).

The Crown‘s wins were particularly significant for Netflix, which had never won a top series Emmy until now, despite receiving 30 nominations for best drama, comedy, and limited series since 2013. In fact, Hulu was previously the only streamer to have won best drama for The Handmaid’s Tale.

In bringing home a total of 44 Emmys, Netflix also set the record for most Emmy wins for a platform or network in a single year, a record previously held by CBS in 1974. The streamer won more than doubled its wins from last year, when it took home 21 Emmys, and won more than double the total number of Emmys of its nearest competition, HBO and HBO Max (which scored 19 statuettes).
