Michael Eklund, Camille Sullivan win UBCP/ACTRA Awards

michael eklundMichael Eklund and Camille Sullivan were among the winners at the The Union of British Columbia Performers/ACTRA Awards, held this past Saturday at the Vancouver Playhouse.

Sullivan took home the best actress prize for her performance in Ally was Screaming, produced by Calgary’s Perfect Pictures, while Eklund won the best actor award for his role in Kyle Rideout’s Eadweard.

The awards, which recognize outstanding contributions to B.C.’s creative industries over the past year, saw Dakota Daulby named as the best emerging performer for his role in Jason Bourque’s Black Fly.

The ceremony, hosted by Roger Cross and Jill Morrison, also saw Brian Drummond pick up the best voice award for his performance in Slappy Happy Cartoons’ Nerds & Monsters, and Leif Havdale win best stunt prize for the second year in a row for Arrow. The five winners were selected from a total of 33 nominees.

The evening included the presentation of two special awards as well. Marny Eng won the Lorena Gale Woman of Distinction Award and Brent Butt won the John Juliani Award of Excellence.
