Essence Awards (1993)

The Essence Awards are the largest event celebrating African-American culture and music in the United States. In 1993, Tina received the award from her friend Ann Margret with a speech from Bill Cosby. Stephanie Mills, Chanté Moore and Karyn White performed a live tribute medley with some of her greatest hits. Tina was accompanied by her manager Roger Davis. In her very emotional acceptance speech, she revealed that she opened many times for Bill in Las Vegas and he always hided her costumes.
