Saturday Night Live is going to need a new president: Jim Carrey is hanging up his impersonation of President-Elect Joe Biden on the weekend sketch series.
The comedian made the announcement on Twitter Saturday, telling fans that his Biden days are officially over. “Though my term was only meant to be six weeks, I was thrilled to be elected as your SNL President. I would love to go forward knowing that Biden was the victor because I nailed that s–t. But I am just one in a long line of proud, fighting SNL Bidens!”
Carrey relocated to New York to portray Biden, alongside former cast member Maya Rudolph’s Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris. The two appeared side-by-side throughout the controversial 2020 Presidential election, however, his exit comes as little surprise: The star never officially joined the NBC late-night series full time.
Carrey portrayed Biden throughout the first six episodes of Season 46, and has not appeared in the last two broadcasts. Though it’s unclear who might take his place, Carrey’s departure opens up options for a cast member to step in or for an entirely new outside contributor to join. UPDATE: Cast member Alex Moffat took over for Carrey during the Dec. 19 episode.
SNL is currently prepping its last episode of 2020 — which airs tonight at 11:30/10:30c — with host Kristen Wiig and musical guest Dua Lipa.
Kate McKinnon’s Elizabeth Warren impression should take his place.
*like*
I’m not sure who would be able to do a good Biden. Maybe Moffat or Bennett? If there aren’t any good Bidens in the cast they should just give Sudiekis whatever he wants to do it.
I’d like to see Mikey Day as Biden. He’s such a brilliant physical comedian, and has the perfect look. They should use him more.
Good, I didn’t like it although it wasn’t as annoying as Alec Baldwin’s Trump. Colbert does a decent impression of Biden although he has a full time job.
Totally agree!
nah your impression as a tvline commenter is more annoying
Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2021 to you. :-)
Darryl Hammond
Not unhappy to hear this. I like Jim Carey but he didn’t not pull off a great Biden impersonation.
I totally agree! Nothing resembling Biden, but it was actually a mean Keith Carradine!
Good. Love Jim Carey, but his Biden wasn’t very good. A little too animated.
Perhaps they should use a CAST MEMBER!!
I hear Alec Baldwin is free – or will be shortly…
I’m torn.
His Biden wasn’t great as an impression, but as a Jim Carrey character it feels like a distillation of everything I loved about Jim Carrey when I was growing up.
I’m glad because he was horrible. I hope whoever gets the job next does a better job.
I mean, he was basically hired in the hopes that he would get to do the Loser joke in a brilliant bit of playing the long game by SNL. We got the joke payoff and now he can ride off into the sunset.
Brad Pitt Should be Fauci
She was just ok at it
As far as Jim Carey being Biden he was ok.
Carrey’s Biden impersonation wasn’t nearly subtle enough. But, then, he never has been a master of “subtle” in anything I’ve seen him do.
Wasn’t any good anyway.
He can’t do an impression of anyone while taking the “Jim Carrey” tick schtick out of it.
Not shocked. There’s no way he was going to play Biden over these next 4 years.
He was terrible in the role, a ham. So no great loss there.
I nominate Ted Danson to play Biden.
Moi, Ted Danson has another TV Show Mr. Mayor so He can’t be Joe Biden !
The dude is just weird
Jason Sudeikis’s Biden was excellent. It should have been his from the beginning. Bring back Sudeikis!
I’m relieved to hear this. It always seemed like he was doing an impression of Biden doing an impression of Jim Carrey.
The Return of Sudekis!
Good, it was nice to see Carey again but his Biden wasn’t great. Besides “malarkey” and ice cream Biden doesn’t have much of a big personality or distinct voice like Trump and Obama, so it could be anyone in the cast.
I do like Colbert’s impression though.
I’m okay with this. Carey was and always is too over the top and too overrated and his ego is overinflated. There’s better out there.
He was a terrible choice! Felt like SNL was trying too hard to force Jim Carrey as Biden why??? It looked more like he was playing a subdued version of his Mask character, too tense, jaw forward! Nothing to do with Biden!! Bring back Jason Sudekis!
