Boba Fett Series Confirmed as a Mandalorian Spinoff; Pedro Pascal Will Be Back as Mando for Season 3
Jon Favreau has closed the book on speculation about the Boba Fett series that was teased at the end of The Mandalorian‘s Season 2 finale, stating that it is a standalone spinoff.
“This is actually separate from The Mandalorian Season 3,” the TV franchise EP officially confirmed Monday on Good Morning America.
The Book of Boba Fett, as it is titled, is already filming with an eye on a December 2021 premiere, “and then we go into production after that with Season 3 of The Mandalorian, with the main character we know and love (played by Pedro Pascal).”
The Mandalorian Season 3 will thus begin filming in 2021, with its premiere date/month TBD.
The Book of Boba Fett, which is set within the timeline of The Mandalorian, was held back from the many other series announcements made at Disney Investor day, Favreau said, because “we didn’t want to spoil the surprise.” And indeed, ever since The Mandalorian’s Season 2 finale came to a close, Disney+ had been 100-percent mum on what The Book of Boba Fett is and isn’t.
After delivering a most unexpected (yet not) and out-of-this-world cameo with the actual finale’s closing moments, The Mandalorian slipped in a post-credits scene in which Boba Fett (played by Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones‘ Morrison), with help from Fennec Shand (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s Wen), gunned down Bib Fortuna to lay claim to the throne inside Jabba the Hutt’s palace on the planet Tatooine. After the formidable duo settled in, the title card “THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT…. COMING DECEMBER 2021” appeared on-screen.
In the immediate wake of the tease, some assumed that The Book of Boba Fett was a rumored standalone spinoff, while others wondered aloud if the intrepid bounty hunter was possibly “taking over” The Mandalorian, at least for Season 3 — seeing as Lucasfilms’ Kathleen Kennedy said that the flagship Disney+ series “next chapter” would premiere in December 2021. The Boba Fett spinoff, though, is that “next chapter,” Favreau clarified.

I’m hoping Boba-Fett’s series is a lot more ruthless and firmly anti-hero in nature. And I definitely want a recounting of how he escaped from the Sarlacc Pit. That’s something I’ve wanted to see since I was a kid.
Agreed. And I think season three will be dealing with the liberation of mandalor and the dark saber storyline. Should be interesting. Also more Katee Sackhoff!
Finally is confirmed! I was worried about the future of The Mandalorian. Now I can rest easy and look forward to watching both series next december.

He’ll be trained by Luke at the fledgling Jedi Temple, hopefully before the Jedi Temple massacre from the sequel trilogy. I’m sure Grogu will be back, but maybe in one of the spin-off series before he returns to the Mandalorian
My guess is the next series of the Mandalorian will focus on Mandalore and the Darksaber issue. I would be amazed if we don’t see Mando and Grogu on the same screen again.
Ming Na Wen was such a bad@ss in Agents of SHIELD, especially in the earlier years. I was psyched enough just seeing her play a minor role in Mandalorian, but this news is awesome. Perfect partner for Boba Fett!
Just one minor issue is, seemed a little too easy how they just fired a few shots and took over the palace of a major galaxy crime lord. Maybe Book of Boba Fett will address that.
Except Jabba was the major crime lord, and he’s been dead for 5 years. Bib was probably a lot more minor league.
plus also remember that season 5 that she was doing most of her stunts hurt, as the reason why she had a brace on for season 5 is because she tore her acl doing stunt work i think in the season 4 finale

Why did people think this was the end of the Mandalorian or that the Book of Boba Fett was season 3 of the Mandalorian?
When I saw that post credit teaser, I immediately knew this was a separate story. Not sure why people thought otherwise.
Because there’s been a lot of speculation about Pedro Pascal’s future as Mando. He’s apparently been a pain on set.
Which has clearly been proven false. People said he left late In the season crying about having to wear a helmet, yet there he was, helmetless, with the story clearly showing he is going away from always wearing it (what would he be so upset if that’s where the story is taking him).
Also way too funny people were thinking The Book of Boba Fett would be S3, when we literally know what s3 will be.
Because there are some Twitter/YouTube sites out there just creating controversy for the clicks. Especially frauds like Grace Randolph. Then when proven wrong they twist themselves into pretzels trying to prove they were right.

I thought it might have been a creative decision. Leave before you wear out your welcome. It would be leaving literal millions of dollars in profits behind, but sometimes companies do that — put creativity ahead of profits.
Because:
1) In a show which calls it’s episodes “Chapters”, referring to something as “The Book Of” sounds like it could be part of that same line of chapters.
2) Because at Disney’s investor day they announced Mandalorian season 3 as airing in December 2021.
No-one thought it was the end of the Mandalorian. But whether it was it’s own thing or Mandalorian season 3 was definitely ambiguous.
It was confusion of “the next chapter”. Favreau said nobody said Mando S3.

Very glad to hear it – I was concerned. 😄 I just recently got into this show, but I wasn’t ready for the story of Din and Grogu to be over (I know – Grogu isn’t confirmed to return, but for the moment I’m assuming he will be).

I don’t know what I’m more excited by: Boba Fett getting his own series, or Ming-Na Wen returning to the small screen. Either way, this is awesome news!
I don’t really care about the mandalorian story or boba fet story if It doesn’t include baby yoda. He’s my hero.
