With crime pic “Cali” on hold, Nick Cassavetes has found a project to take its place, as “The Notebook” helmer has come on to direct “The Other Woman” for Fox.

Julie Yorn will produce through LBI Prods. Melissa Stack is penning the script about a woman, who, after realizing she is not her boyfriend’s primary lover, teams with the man’s wife to plot a mutual revenge.

Cameron Diaz had been rumored to star, but sources say she is not attached at this time. The studio hopes to have both lead roles locked up in the next week.

Though he made a memorable cameo as a vulgar tattoo artist in “The Hangover 2,” Cassavetes has spent most of his time directing after years of acting in films such as “Mask” and “Face/Off.”

Cassavetes also helmed “Alpha Dog” and “My Sister’s Keeper.”

He is repped by ICM Partners.
