  Music review of 'Muskaan'

*AWFUL **SO-SO ***GOOD ****SUPER *****CLASSIC

MUSKAAN **
Music:
Nikhil-Vinay
Label and genre: T-series, Hindi film
Price: Cassettes Rs 50, CDs Rs 99

One thing’s for sure – after listening to the Muskaan soundtrack, you won’t end up smiling. Not that there’s anything devastatingly wrong with the songs. It’s only that they’re too long and too routine.

Yes, Nikhil-Vinay show promise on some numbers, with Sameer writing appropriate lyrics. Woh Jo Tum (Sonu Nigam-Anuradha Paudwal) is a pleasant duet, with an alternate version by Sonu and Shreya Ghoshal, and a sad version by Sonu.

Jis Din Teri Meri Baatein (Udit-Anuradha) is about loneliness, and Yaad Aayee (Adnan Sami) is nostalgic. The Punjabi tune, Nach Panjaban Nachle (Sonu-Anuradha) seems like a faster version of the antara of the Naseeb hit Chal Mere Bhai.

Jaaneman Chupke Chupke (Udit Narayan-Alka Yagnik and Anuradha solo) rambles on, and Ishq Hasata Hai (Sonu-Anuradha) is predictable and long, with irritating choruses.

Though it’s club friendly, Nami Danam (Shaan-Alka) isn’t catchy enough. Our biggest complaint, of course, is the length – after 74 minutes, you’re exhausted.
