The historical gardens
The living horticultural museum in Aalsmeer, called 'The historical gardens', shows the development of horticulture in Aalsmeer; from the arboriculture of the seventeenth century to the shrubs, ornamental trees, ancient roses and finally to the 20th century varieties of flowers.

Westeinderplassen/ Westeinder lakes
One third of the municipality is taken up by the Westeinder lakes. These lakes are ideal for rowing, surfing, sailing and swimming. Those with a license can drive a motorboat or go water skiing. Boats are available for hire. There is a recreation park for day-trippers at Vrouwentroost, which boasts a grassy field, picnic places and surfing facilities. The Oosteinder lakes are a protected nature reserve with a wide diversity of flora and nesting sites for birds. It is freely accessible by boat.
 
In addition Aalsmeer has two swimming baths, the indoor and outdoor pool 'De Waterlelie' and the natural swimming pool 'Het Oosterbad'.

Each day, 19 million flowers and two million plants are sold through 13 clocks at 'Bloemenveiling Aalsmeer'. It takes place within an area of almost one million m2. This means that Bloemenveiling Aalsmeer has the largest trade building in the entire world!

You can visit the auction between 7.30 and 11 a.m. The best time to visit is between 7.30 and 9.00 a.m. The auction is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Bloemencorso Aalsmeer/ Flower Parade Aalsmeer
Every year in September a long stream of flower-decorated floats will be parading through Aalsmeer. The annual parade will take place every first weekend in September. Over a million flowers will be used to make up a mobile presentation provided by hundreds of volunteers from twenty committees from Aalsmeer and vicinity to the hundreds of thousands of viewers.
 
This will be a rolling spectacle with lots of music and entertainment - a mobile show featuring flowers, flowers and more flowers. The 21 enormous floats will also be accompanied by passenger cars decorated with flowers. The Aalsmeer Flower Parade is the showcase for the latest trends that the Netherlands as the World's Flower Centre offers in the way of floral artistry. Don't miss it!
