News: Yu-Gi-Oh! 3D's U.S. Theatrical Run Dated for February-March

posted on 2010-11-22 03:23 EST

The official website for the 10th anniversary of TV Tokyo's Yu-Gi-Oh! anime franchise confirmed on Saturday the opening date for Yu-Gi-Oh! 3D: Bonds Beyond Time (Gekijō-ban Yu-Gi-Oh! ~Chō-Yūgō! Jikū o Koeta Kizuna) in the United States next year. The digital cinema developer and distributor Cinedigm will run the 49-minute film in about 250 theaters in the United States on February 26 and 27, and again on March 5 and 6. There are also plans to release the film in Europe and Asia afterwards.

4Kids Entertainment had already announced in September that it would release the film in stereoscopic 3D theaters and on home video worldwide in 2011. To commemorate the worldwide opening, the film will return to Japanese theaters on February 26 as well. The encore Japanese run will add about 10 minutes of 2D special footage.

The film's story features the main heroes of all three TV Tokyo anime series: Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters' Yuugi Mutou, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monster GX's Judai Yuki, and the ongoing Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Yūsei Fudō. The story brought together the three heroes to fight Paradox, a powerful new enemy who appeared for the first time in the film.

The 2004 Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Movie remains the #3 Japanese-animated film in North America, below Pokemon: The First Movie and Pokemon 2000 - The Movie.
