About…
Howard Lucraft first came to fame in
England as an
orchestra leader for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). In addition to
regular national broadcasts with his own groups he composed, arranged, scripted
and emceed special BBC shows.
He emigrated to the
United States
to compose and arrange for records, TV etc. His early credits include
compositions and arrangements for Stan Kenton, Anita O’Day, Ray Noble, KTTV-TV
and KABC-TV. His specially commissioned “Los Angeles Suite” was premiered in
the Hollywood Bowl. His own bands can be heard now on
various record
labels following his initial recordings in the
U.S.
on the Decca (MCA) label.
Howard Lucraft’s radio programs
have broadcast over KABC, KBCA, KCBH, KKGO, KLON and KNOB. His “Jazz
International” show for American Forces Radio had more than 100 million
listeners. Other programs include Radio
Luxembourg
(500,00 watts) and a syndicated Lucraft series with transmission in 163 U.S.
cities.
In Hollywood, Howard Lucraft composes and arranges for records, TV and radio, including commercials and promos. His own bands are seen on TV and at American venues from the transported London Bridge at Lake Havasu, Arizona, to Las Vegas.
Howard has lectured on music at the University of California at Riverside and in the Los Angeles school system. He has been the American judge at music festivals from Athens to Caracas.
Lucraft has been the music editor for Daily Variety. Other music writing credits include Atlantic Records, Capitol Records, Crescendo International, Decca Records (MCA), Disc, Down Beat, Jazz Journal, Jazz Times, London Daily Herald, London Sun, Los Angeles Herald-Examiner, Los Angeles Times, Melody Maker, Mercury Records, Metronome, New Musical Express, Overture, Pacific Jazz Records, RCA Records, United Artists Records, Variety. Warner Bros. Records, and World Pacific Records. He was elected president of the Hollywood Press Club a record three separate times.
Howard is a life member and former vice-president and executive director of the American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers (ASMAC). He’s a member of the American Federation of Radio and Television Artists (AFTRA), Performing Rights Society (PRS), Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters (PPB). Howard is the recipient of the prestigious PPB Diamond Circle Award. He is a life member of the Alumni Association of the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA).
