One of the most anticipated films to debut at this year’s South by Southwest Film Festival and Convention is Bob and the Monster. It may sound like a campy horror flick but it’s actually about music and recovery. Does the name Bob Forrest sound familiar to you? He’s known to most of us as the straight shooting counselor/sponsor on VH-1′s “Celebrity Rehab,” but he’s actually a former rock artist who’s lived a fast life filled with drugs and alcohol. Bob and the Monster chronicles his journey. Check out the trailer…

Forrest was the lead singer of the punk band Thelonious Monster, hence the title of the movie, Bob and the Monster. The film highlights interviews from various 80′s rockers including members from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jane’s Addiction. Forrest’s life is profiled through his own words, video footage, and clay animation. Yes, they use clay animation in the movie.

We were completely unaware of how far Forrest’s roots in the rock community go. He seems to be a champion for artists who have found themselves on the wrong side of a bottle or syringe.

Bob and the Monster is directed by Keirda Bahruth.
