Lionsgate has Feb. friend in 'Deeds'

Tyler Perry's latest pic to follow pattern of Q1 release date

If it's February, it must be time for a new Tyler Perry pic. Staying true to its recent tradition, Lionsgate has dated the helmer's latest pic, "Tyler Perry's Good Deeds," for a Feb. 24 release.

Perry has become a boffo first-quarter staple for Lionsgate, usually bowing a film of his in February or during Easter weekend.

"Good Deeds," which toplines Perry, Thandie Newton and Gabrielle Union, will open the week after Presidents Day weekend, a solid time at the box office. Pic tells the story of a businessman who falls in love with a single mother just before he is skedded to marry another woman.

The helmer's most recent film, "Madea's Big Happy Family," opened April 22 and has cumed $51.9 million domestically. "Madea Goes to Jail" -- Perry's highest grossing film to date -- tallied $90.5 million after launching Feb. 20, 2009.

In its February slot, "Good Deeds" will go up against FilmDistrict's "Lockout," starring Guy Pearce and Maggie Grace, "The Devil Inside" from Paramount's genre label Insurge, and Summit's Amanda Seyfried-thriller "Gone."
