Lena Dunham will be moving from Tiny Furniture to small screens.

HBO announced today that it’s ordered a full season of “Girls,” a show created by Dunham that will follow three, um, girls as they go through the usual adolescent holding patterns in New York City. Duham wrote, directed, and starred in the pilot. She’s also an executive producer, but she’ll get some help from the comedy world’s puppet master, Judd Apatow.

“Lena Dunham quickly established herself as an important young talent with her first feature film,” HBO president Sue Naegle told Variety.

And like Tiny Furniture, “Girls” will probably capture the ennui of privileged New York life with deft tragicomic timing. Joining Lena Dunham for the ride are Jemima Kirke (daughter of Bad Company drummer Simon Kirke), Zosia Mamet (daughter of playwright David Mamet) and Allison Williams (daughter of NBC Anchor Brian Williams).

Lucky for Allison’s dad, the series will be set in Greenpoint, Brooklyn — where, as Mr. Williams knows, they make grilled cheese sandwiches in the streets. We’re hoping he’ll make a “30 Rock”-esque cameo and take the girls to a flash artisanal market.
