Student president of Calgary university arrested following bank heist
CALGARY - Calgary police have arrested the former student president of Mount Royal University following a bank heist.
Meghan Darcy Melnyk, who is 27, was wanted on warrants for fraud, uttering forged documents and breach of probation.
She was arrested Wednesday after a woman approached a bank teller, indicated she had a weapon and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.
University spokesman Fred Cheney ('CHAIN-ee) says an ongoing police investigation involves Melnyk's conduct while student president.
However, police told reporters they are not investigating any criminal wrongdoing involving Melnyk's role with the university.
Melnyk is still enrolled in one class at the school but resigned as student president at the end of January.
