A Resurgent Carly Simon Brings Her New Album To HBO Read

Recorded at New York's Academy Theater in February, the concert -her second for HBO in three years - features the throaty vocalist in duets with young jazz pianist Harry Connick Jr.

Backed by a 21-piece band, Simon performs personal childhood favorites such as Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Something Wonderful," and Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn's "Time After Time." One of her own tunes, "What Has She Got," has been added to the nostalgic mix. "I left Gershwin and Porter out of this one for some reason," she says. "I'll catch up with them the next time."

Her current musical project is catching up with the latest favorites of her children, Sally, 16, and Ben, 13. "They've gotten into some rap stuff that I just can't quite figure out yet," she says. Generally, Simon's kids share their mother's musical tastes - including admiration for the work of James Taylor, their father and her first husband.
