511 Alert

511 Overview

511 is a free phone and Web service that consolidates the San Diego region's transportation information into a one-stop resource. 511 provides up-to-the minute information on traffic conditions, incidents and driving times, schedule, route and fare information for San Diego public transportation services, carpool and vanpool referrals, bicycling information and more. 511 is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, some operators may have limited hours.

The new Web site offers a number of features for commuters, transit riders, carpoolers, visitors, and more at www.511sd.com.

511 is managed by a partnership of public agencies led by SANDAG, the California Highway Patrol, the California Department of Transportation, Metropolitan Transit System (MTS), North County Transit District (NCTD), and San Diego SAFE.

511 Coverage Area

The 511 phone service is available throughout San Diego County by dialing 511 on nearly all landline and cellular phones, or by dialing 1-855-GO-SD-511 (1-855-467-3511) from any phone.

511 Accessibility

SANDAG is committed to servicing those with disabilities and particular needs and the new 511 phone and Web sites were reviewed by accessibility consultants and an advisory committee. Both services were enhanced following recommendations from this committee. Phone users who are hearing impaired can call 711, the national three-digit number for access to the Telecommunication Relay Services (TRS), to access 511 hearing impaired services.

You can also use the back-up, touch-tone system that 511 offers. To access the touch-tone function on 511, press zero at each menu to hear the menu options and corresponding touch tone commands.
