New Classroom Building Project

 

The District will expand the school facilities to accommodate the increased enrollment. Currently the campus consists of four (4) classroom pods, five (5) portable classrooms, a library and a Large Group Instruction (LGI) building.  

 

Currently this project is in its planning stages. The plans for the new building at Audubon Elementary School will go to the Division of State Architect (DSA) for approval during Fall 2012. These plans consist of a new pre-manufactured two story building which will house ten (10) new classrooms. Once approved by DSA, work is anticipated to start Spring/Summer 2013. Estimated completion date is Summer 2014.

Construction of New LGI and Classroom Building

 

The District will expand the facilities to accommodate the increased enrollment. The undersized parking lot will be increased from 35 spaces to 48 spaces.The food service and lunch areas are too small and will be enlarged to address capacity and meet District guidelines.

 

The Board of Trustees (BOT) approved the New Large Group Instruction (LGI) and Classroom Building Project on March 18, 2010. The plans for the new building at Baywood Elementary School have been approved by the Division of State Architects (DSA). These plans consist of a new two story building which will house a new LGI and 10 new classrooms. The job was bid on June 10, 2011 and approved by the BOT on June 16, 2011. Construction started in June 2011. It is anticipated that the construction will be completed by August 2012.

Modernization and New Construction

 

The current campus consists of a Large Group Instruction (LGI) building and four (4) classroom wings with a library and administration office. In addition, there are two (2) separate portable building wings with three (3) and six (6) classrooms, respectively, and a portable building that houses the District’s Counseling Office. In addition, there are eight (8) stand alone portable classrooms which make up the Turnbull Child Development Center.

 

College Park Elementary School offers Mandarin Immersion and Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) programs. Turnbull Child Development Center offers Mandarin Pre-school program. The school continues to increase in enrollment.

 

The classroom wings and the LGI building will be completely modernized. All portable buildings and classrooms installed prior 1980 will be demolished and replaced. New construction will consist of a new administration and kindergarten buildings with four (4) classrooms. The project also includes a new lunch area, playgrounds, and bus drop-off with a shelter. The modernization will address all American with Disability Act (ADA) and Title 24 requirements.

 

The Turnbull Child Development Center houses two (2) new buildings with 13 classrooms. An additional recreation room has beeen relocated from the Fiesta Gardens International School site to the Turnbull Child Development Center.

 

The Board of Trustees approved the modernization and new construction project on April 1, 2010. The plans for modernization and new construction for College Park / Turnbull Child Development Center have been approved by the Division of State Architect (DSA). The construction at College Park / Turnbull has started, and the project should be completed by April 2013.

The library, LGI and food service area do not currently meet the District’s Core Facilities Guidelines.

 

The current four (4) classroom wings and the LGI building will be completely modernized. During the modernization the LGI will be converted into a library and computer lab. New administration and LGI buildings will be constructed. The six (6) permanently installed portables that are currently on campus will be upgraded. The portable pre-school classroom will be relocated to the Turnbull Child Development Center. The project includes new playgrounds and a new lunch shelter. Modernization and New Construction

 

The campus is at capacity and key areas within it do not meet the District’s Core Facility Guidelines. The kindergarten classrooms are small and are in need of expansion. The library and Large Group Instruction (LGI) facilities are small for the number of students served. The administration and staff areas are small for the number of staff being served.

 

The plans for modernization and new construction for Foster City Elementary School have been approved by the Division of State Architect (DSA). Modernization is planned to be completed in four (4) phases. The phases are:

           

Phase I – Kindergarten Portables

  • Eight (8) kindergarten temporary portable classrooms were installed in December 2008.

Phase II – Transitional Housing

  • Install temporary portable buildings including 28 classrooms, administration office, teachers’ work-room / lounge, LGI, kitchen, media / library room, resource special programs (RSP)/speech/psychology rooms and four (4) temporary bathroom portables for students and staff

Phase III – Campus Modernization

  • Complete modernization of the entire school campus and construction of three (3) new buildings including a large group instruction, library and administration buildings

Phase IV – Restoring field and playground areas

  • Once modernization is completed, current temporary portables will be removed and playground and grass areas will be restored to their original condition.

 

Phases I and II have been completed. Phase III is planned to start in the Summer 2011.

The job was bid on July 7, 2011 and approved by BOT on July 14, 2011. Construction started approximately in July 2011. It is anticipated that the construction will be completed by August 2012.

District-Wide Security Cameras & Fencing Projects

District - Wide Fencing and Security Cameras Project

Provide architectural services for the replacement of site fencing District Sites.  This work includes:

  • Site walk and review of existing site fencing. Sites include Abbott, Audubon, Bereford, Borel, Brewer Island, George Hall, Highlands, Horrall, Laurel, Meadow Heights, North Shoreview, Parkside and Sunnybrae Schools.
  • Coordination of preliminary layouts of new or replacement fencing.
  • Provide design drawings and construction documents for removal of existing fencing and installation of new 8' fencing to separate the campus core from the site playground areas.  The front of campus will receive powder coated ornamental steel fencing.  The remainder of campus will receive 8' vinyl coated chain link fence.
  • Local fire authority review for all new gates and access onto campus
  • As part of the security plan, surveillance technology will be installed district-wide.  Security cameras and motion sensors will enable the district to provide clear video to authorities, employees and supervisors.
