Showtime Networks announces seven-year licensing deal with Phoenix Pictures; SHOWTIME to acquire 11% equity interest in Feature Film Production Company.LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 5, 1996--Showtime Networks Inc. (SNI (1) (Subscriber Network Interface) The point of interface between the customer's equipment (CPE) and a communications service from a common carrier.(2) (SNA Network I ), a unit of Viacom Inc., and Phoenix Pictures have entered into an agreement under which SNI has agreed to acquire the exclusive U.S. premium television rights to up to 40 films over a seven-year period. The deal will include Phoenix Pictures' theatrically released titles from Jan. 1, 1996 through Dec. 31, 2002. SNI has also agreed to acquire approximately 11% of the equity of the company, marking the first time that the network has made an equity stake in a feature film production company of this caliber. The effectiveness of both the licensing agreement and the equity investment is subject to Phoenix successfully closing its financing arrangement with Chemical Bank. Phoenix is currently producing Barbra Streisand's "The Mirror Has Two Faces." This partnership was successfully negotiated between Showtime Networks Inc.'s President and Chief Executive Officer Matthew C.
