EXCLUSIVE: Scream Factory, IFC Midnight Partner for Exclusive Home Media Deal

Fans of last year’s THE BABADOOK might remember FANGORIA’s recent report on the film’s upcoming home media release from specialty distributor Scream Factory, who is giving the film one hell of a collector’s edition this April. But more curious was the news afterwards that IFC Midnight’s EXTRATERRESTRIAL, the sophomore bow from the Vicious Brothers, was also set to get a Scream Factory Blu. Sensing a pattern, FANGORIA inquired about a potential partnership between Scream Factory and IFC Midnight, who confirmed that Scream will indeed be handling all IFC Midnight releases for the foreseeable future.

“Yes, and we’re all very excited about it,” said a source over at IFC Midnight, who added, “They do really great work over there and I think they’ll do a great job with our titles. I think it’s really going to pay off for horror fans.”

This confirmation particularly makes sense for a lot of IFC Midnight titles, some of which spent a long time getting to Blu-ray following their stay on Netflix Instant Streaming including ALIEN ABDUCTION. Starting with THE BABADOOK, Scream Factory will exclusively handle every IFC Midnight title for Region A DVD/Blu-ray releases, which is presumed to include EJECTA, WYRMWOOD: ROAD OF THE DEAD and DARK SUMMER, as well as future 2015 releases. IFC Midnight would not confirm how long the deal is said to last, and if any titles would be excluded entirely or delayed to their ongoing Netflix deal, but if THE BABADOOK and EXTRATERRESTRIAL’s feature-loaded Blu releases are any indication, it’s a win-win for everyone.
