Cold mountain: the journey from book to film

Linda Sunshine is a former editor at Stewart, Tabori & Chang, and the author of more than fifty books including twenty-six behind-the-scenes portraits of notable films, from "E.T." and "Stuart Little" to "Catch Me If You Can" and "Frida." She lives in New York and Los Angeles.
Steve Moore, executive producer, created the comic panel "In the Bleachers," while working at a sports editor at "The Maui News" in Hawaii. He then took a post at the "Los Angeles Times," where after eleven years, he left to concentrate full-time on the comic strip and developing other projects. "Open Season" is his first animated feature film. "In the Bleachers "is distributed by Universal Press Syndicate. Steve and his family currently reside in Boise, Idaho.

Charles Frazier was born in 1950 and grew up in western North Carolina. Frazier received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of North Carolina and his doctorate in American literature from the University of South Carolina. He taught at the University of Colorado and North Carolina State University before writing his first novel, Cold Mountain. He based the bestselling book on true stories written by his great-great-grandfather in journals during the Civil War period. Cold Mountain won the National Book Award.

Dan Auiler is the author of "Vertigo: The Making of a Hitchcock Classic", which the "Washington Post" called "savvy and mesmerizing" and "Entertainment Weekly" awarded an "A-." He began as a film critic for a Texas weekly and has taught cinema and drama courses for more than a decade. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and daughter.

Anthony Minghella was formerly a professor of dramatic literature at the University of Hull. In addition to directing the award-winning film The English Patient, he has written extensively for British theater, television, radio, and film.

Maria Tallchief was George Balanchine's muse for twenty years and his wife for six. Together they made the New York City Ballet an essential part of American culture, with his choreography and her dazzling, technically bravura dancing. Tallchiefreceived the Kennedy Center Honors in 1996. She lives in Chicago.
Larry Kaplan writes frequently for "Ballet Review" and has assisted in biographies of Merrill Ashley and Edward Villella. He lives in New York City.
