When news of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” was announced, the roles in the movie undoubtedly became the hottest casting spots in Hollywood. But who knew Emma Stone and Jon Hamm wanted to get in on the Force?
In honor of “The Force Awakens'” impending release, just less than a month away, “Saturday Night Live” recruited director J.J. Abrams to show some of the “never-before-seen” screen tests of auditions, featuring some big names.
Actual cast members Daisy Ridley and John Boyega were also on hand, with Ridley doing chemistry tests alongside such stars as Sofia Vergara (Cecily Strong) and John Mayer (Jon Rudnitsky).
“A black stormtrooper! Yeah, right,” said Boyega in his audition, bursting out into laughter at the aspect of the script that many fans fought against, before regaining a straight face. “A black stormtrooper?!”
“Mad Men” star Hamm appeared in full costume, auditioning for an iconic role: “Hamm Solo.”
Stone touched on her own racial controversy while auditioning for Ridley’s part, Rey. Stone was the center of backlash for her role in Cameron Crowe’s “Aloha,” playing a part-Asian character.
“I know that the ‘Star Wars’ universe is very diverse, and I don’t know if you saw the movie ‘Aloha,’ but I can play a very convincing part-Asian woman,” said Stone.
The episode was hosted by Matthew McConaughey. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” opens Dec. 18.
Nothing….. I mean nothing at all funny here. I cringed a lot though.
Star Wars auditions fell flat. Loved Thanksgiving with Adele and the 3D Printout Man skit with McConaughey.
Painfully unfunny.
Gosh, enjoy yourself, don’t be so painfully bitter, wasn’t super funny, but it did had its funny jokes.
