Billie Eilish is speaking her truth in a new Calvin Klein ad by revealing the reason behind her signature baggy clothes. In the brand’s all-new campaign, dubbed “I Speak My Truth In #MyCalvins,” Billie explains that she doesn't want the world to know everything about her, so she relies on fashion to protect herself.

“That’s why I wear baggy clothes,” she says in the ad, which also features Noah Centineo, Shawn Mendes, and Chika Oranika. “Nobody can have an opinion because they haven't seen what’s underneath. Nobody can be like, ‘she’s slim-thick,’ ‘she’s not slim-thick,’ ‘she’s got a flat ass,’ ‘she's got a fat ass.’ No one can say any of that because they don't know.”

As noted by BuzzFeed News, Billie’s revelation has sparked an ongoing dialogue on social media about the objectification of women’s bodies. Many fans are loudly supporting Billie’s reasons behind her clothing choices, with some expressing that they whole-heartedly relate. “The fact that Billie Eilish wears big baggy clothes so that no one can make assumptions, judge, or body shame her makes me love her as an artist and as a person even more,” one fan wrote.

However, other fans are pointing out that no one should be made to feel that they have to hide their bodies in order to avoid harassment or name-calling. “The fact that Billie Eilish wears baggy clothes so she won’t get sexualized really says something about our society,” one Twitter user said, while another fan wrote: “This breaks my heart that she feels the need to dress like this just to avoid you miserable people who like to body shame for NO REASON.”

Whatever the reason, it’s important to keep in mind that it’s up to Billie to decide what she wears, and the same goes for all of us. The decision to cover — or bare — a body part is an individual, and often personal, choice, and no one deserves to be shamed or judged for their clothing decisions, period.
