Nokia has revealed the C7 has an embedded NFC chip – meaning you may be able to use it for mobile payments and contactless travel – if Nokia ever activates it!

Ubergizmo is suggesting that Nokia will issue a firmware update to activate the technology.

Near Field Communication allows you to wave a device over mobile payment systems and other NFC readers, such as an Oyster card reader.

Currently, Barclaycard supports NFC, as does TfL with Oyster cards.

Nokia conducted an NFC trial in 2008 and was a big talking point at Mobile World Congress earlier this year.

There have also been rumours of an NFC-enabled iPhone 5, although that seems a little way of at the moment.
