I’m not a professional Oscar prognosticator, but agree with you that AIR feels like a story they’ll love. As Deloris Jordan (this movie’s King Richard), Viola Davis certainly deserves a nom.

My mother died just before Christmas. BACK TO THE FUTURE was her favorite movie and her hero after he came out with early-onset Parkinson's a few years before she was diagnosed with same. Needless to say, seeing STILL was a special experience.

With clone-smothering fist fights and cum-shot close-ups, INFINITY POOL is one of the weirdest films I've ever seen at #Sundance — but what else would you expect from POSSESSOR director Brandon Cronenberg?

RRR. Somewhere Michael Bay is scratching his head saying, “Where was the enthusiasm when I pulled all those stunts?” Or maybe AMBULANCE just needed a dance number.

If I were to start my most 2022 overrated film list, I’d probably head off with BANSHEES OF INISHERIN. What else belongs on it?

The opening party is a stunner, and there are plenty more scenes to remember, but Damien Chazelle's 309-minute maximalist BABYLON struggles to find a point of view among its characters, far overstaying its welcome.

Thirteen years ago, James Cameron's AVATAR broke a visual barrier in cinema that few, if any, have been able to follow. Now along comes the first of four sequels, and it's more of the same, minus the thrill of discovery. In short, if you've seen one AVATAR, you've seen 'em all.

The new Hayao Miyazaki movie has a release date (in Japan, at least). A good time to remind that the "retired" anime master also has another movie up his sleeve after this one (to be directed by someone else). variety.com/lists/best-stu

The new feature film from director Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli has been announced! HOW DO YOU LIVE (tentative title) opens in theaters in Japan on July 14, 2023. twitter.com/JP_GHIBLI/stat…

Here are 99 movies to sink your teeth into at 2023, which will be available both online and in person in Park City this January. (Shout-outs to Directors to Watch MAGAZINE DREAMS, THE STARLING GIRL and JOYLAND.) #Sundance

You’re trying to complicate things. My point on the Best International Feature award: Whatever the Academy decides its rules are for other categories should apply to this one.

So, @AskDebruge, does every foreign film that airs on a streamer qualify for Oscar? Asking for a friend…

You hear a lot about “don’t California my Texas,“ but I gotta say: the youth vote suppression here in Texas truly sucks. I feel so badly for my young Texas friends who are trying to vote here. Let me count the ways it’s almost surgically designed to keep them from voting. /1

It's opening night of the Toronto Film Festival's big comeback 2022 edition — in person and all together again — and my greatest hope for the seemingly overloaded lineup is to find a film that's anywhere near as much fun as BARBARIAN, which opens tomorrow.

It’s day one of the Telluride (Documentary) Film Festival, and I’m glad to be back, even if there are only four narrative world premieres to be found in the lineup.
