Blow for Blues as Sullivan faces month out after knee surgery

The Blues have suffered a blow with the news fullback Zarn Sullivan has a meniscus tear in his left knee that requires surgery.

In a statement, the Blues said the extent of the injury would be known when Sullivan has surgery tomorrow but he will be out of rugby for a minimum of one month, putting him in doubt for the Super Rugby Pacific playoffs.

The Blues lead the competition after beating the Hurricanes in a thriller 31-27 at Eden Park last weekend.

Sullivan, injured during the first half of that match, said he was gutted to receive the news but was remaining positive.

"It was a tough night when I did it and knowing I would be sitting down for a wee while again," he said.

"Having just come back from injury I was firing and ready to go but I know this is all part of sport and I'll get this surgery done, do my rehab then be back on the park as soon as I can.

"I also want to thank everyone for their kind messages and well wishes, it means a lot and I hope everyone can get in behind the Blues boys for this exciting part of the season," he said.

The Blues' next match is against the Highlanders at Eden Park on Saturday night.
