Meet Your Farmer event draws crowd

Visitors to the “Meet Your Local Farmer” event at the community center had a chance to shop for produce and other goods and chat with local farmers Saturday. More photos in Wednesday's Harwich Oracle.

The Cape and Islands Farm Bureau and the Harwich Conservation Trust did it again! They brought together people from all over the Cape last Saturday to meet the local farmers who grow their food or sell farm products. Many items were for sale including hydroponically grown lettuce, herbs, Scottish Highland beef, honey, maple syrup, eggs, sea salt, lavender products, home-made jellies and baby ducks.

The Harwich Community Center was bustling with people of all ages interested in everything  that’s farmed on the Cape. Both children and seniors alike were captivated by the baby sheep, rabbits, exotic fowl, and ducklings, and a big white turkey provided by Miss Scarlet’s Blue Ribbon Farm in Yarmouthport. One of the hens actually laid an egg while the event was in progress, proving just how fresh food can be when it comes from a local farm. The event was free and open to the public.
