MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC-TV) - A new Forbes magazine report ranks Memphis as the second most dangerous city in the United States.

The Bluff City trailed closely behind the Motor City, with Detroit ranked as the most dangerous in the nation. Miami came in a close third.

The three cities were the only large American cities with more than 950 violent crimes committed for every 100,000 people.

Although crime was down 3.5 percent nationwide in 2008, Forbes says the top 10 most dangerous cities on this list share a disturbing trend: they're identified by the US Department of Justice as transit points for Mexican drug cartels.

Nashville is ranked ninth, and Little Rock comes in as the seventh most dangerous city.

Others on the list of 15 include Baltimore, New Orleans and Las Vegas.
