The Aviator and Kill Bill, Vol. 2 Lead Golden Reel Noms

THE AVIATOR and KILL BILL, VOL. 2 both took nominations in all three major feature film categories Dialogue/ADR, Music and Sound Effects/Foley in the top sound editing nominations in the 2004 GOLDEN REEL awards doled out by the Motion Picture Sound Editors. The awards will be presented at the 52nd Annual "Golden Reel" Awards to be held Feb. 26, 2005, at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.

Other nominees for Sound Editing in a Domestic Feature were THE BOURNE SUPREMACY, COLLATERAL, THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW, I, ROBOT, MILLION DOLLAR BABY and SPIDER-MAN 2.

Sound Editing in an Animated Film nominees were THE INCREDIBLES, KAENA: THE PROPHECY, THE POLAR EXPRESS, SHARK TALE, SHREK 2 and TEAM AMERICA: WORLD POLICE.

In episodic television, CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION received noms in all three categories. All three CSI shows will be competing against each other in the Sound Effects Editing in the TV Short Form category, as the CSI franchise earned a total of seven nominations.

Competing for Sound Effects/Foley Editing in Episodic TV will be ALIAS, CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATIONS, CSI: MIAMI, HOUSE, LAX, LOST (Pilot) PART I and SMALLVILLE.

Up for Sound Editing in TV Animation are BATMAN The Big Chill, EVIL CON CASRNE Jealousy, THE GRIM ADVENTURES OF BILLY AND MANDY, JIMMY NEUTRON, SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS Pranks A Lot and XIAOLIN SHOWDOWN Dreamscape.

In Student Film, all five nominees were international. BIRTHDAY BOY and CRAWLSPACE are from the Australian Film, Television and Radio School, BRAND SPANKING and LLOYD IN THE CORNER come from the National Film & Television School in England, and THE SANDMAN is from the Chopin Academy of Music in Poland.

"Once again, I am very proud that we have such a diverse group of nominees in both our film and television categories. We go out of our way to be as inclusive as possible with our categories and nominees, since so often the work of sound and music editors is overlooked," stated MPSE president David J. Bondelevitch. (Bondelevitch is recuperating at home after three weeks in intensive care following surgery on an infected lung.)

The MPSE is also announced its presenters for two special awards. Legendary sound editor and mixer Walter Murch will present the Inaugural Filmmaker's Award to George Lucas, and supervising sound editor Richard Hymns will present the Career Achievement Award to Gary Rydstrom.
