Destiny‘s Child may have the No. 1 album for the second straight week with its Columbia set “Survivor,” but Janet Jackson’s “All for You” continues to best the R&B trio on The Billboard Hot 100. “All for You” maintains its grip on the top position for the seventh straight week, once again fighting off threats from “Survivor”– this week’s fastest-growing track at retail — and an all-star cover of “Lady Marmalade.” The Janet track is now this year’s longest-running chart-topper on the Hot 100.
Meanwhile, Master P’s son Lil’ Romeo continues his impressive storming of the Hot 100. His “My Baby,” which made a powerful debut last week at No. 33, soars to No. 19 this week. The tune, based around a sample from the Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back,” performed even better in hip-hop markets. “My Baby” made its way to the top of Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart after its massive 36-2 jump last week, and is also entering a second week at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Rap Singles tally. His debut Priority album is due in early July.
The Hot 100’s fastest-growing track at radio is Eve’s “Let Me Blow Ya Mind” featuring Gwen Stefani, which rises 27-20. The track makes its way into the top-10 of Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart for the first time, skipping one slot to No. 10.
This week’s top Hot 100 debut is Faith Hill’s contribution to Hollywood’s “Pearl Harbor” soundtrack, “There You’ll Be,” which drops in at No. 46. Other notable debuts include the Backstreet Boys’ “More Than That” at No. 68; Ray J’s “Wait a Minute” featuring Lil’ Kim at No. 76; Three The… G Dep, P Diddy and Black Rob’s “Let’s Get It” at No. 80; and R.E.M.’s “Imitation of Life” at No. 83.
Incubus’ “Drive,” after enjoying weeks of success near the top of Billboard rock airplay charts, cruises into the top-30 of the Hot 100 with a 40-29 jump. Nelly Furtado’s “I’m Like a Bird” continues its flight up the chart, reaching a new peak position in the top-10 at No. 9.
As reported yesterday, Destiny’s Child’s “Survivor” sold about 359,000 units in the U.S., according to SoundScan, to remain No. 1 on The Billboard 200. The set held its ground despite a strong showing from Paul McCartney’s “Wingspan: Hits and History” (Capitol), which sold about 220,000 copies and bows at No. 2. This week’s other top debut came from the Interscope soundtrack to the film “Moulin Rouge,” featuring Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mya, and Pink’s interpretation of “Lady Marmalade,” making its debut at No. 5.
“Survivor” also held the pole position on for the second week on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, where Rawkus’ Hi-Tek enjoys a No. 12 debut with “Hi-Teknology,” which features collaborations with Common, Talib Kweli, and Jonell, among others.
Tim McGraw enters his third week at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart with “Set This Circus Down” (Curb), while Lee Ann Womack’s “I Hope You Dance” jumps to No. 2, experiencing a slight surge after the artist won three honors at the Academy of Country Music Awards last week. Over on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, Brooks & Dunn begin their fifth week at No. 1 with “Ain’t Nothing ‘Bout You.”
Staind’s “It’s Been Awhile” glides into a fifth week at No. 1 on both Billboard’s Mainstream and Modern Rock Tracks charts, holding off challenges on each chart from 3 Doors Down’s “Duck and Run” and Weezer’s “Hash Pipe,” respectively. Blink-182’s “The Rock Show” powers 28-7 on Modern Rock Tracks in just its second week.
