Christina Aguilera spent 2014 supporting a smash collaboration (A Great Big World’s “Say Something”), giving birth (Summer Rain was born in August) and prepping the follow-up to 2012’s Lotus. In a new interview, the pop diva says that Pharrell Williams, another coach on The Voice, is helping Aguilera realize her vision.
“During my pregnancy, I had a meeting with him and just connected on where I want to take the next album,” Aguilera told Extra TV of Williams. “And we started talking music, and he has one song in particular that I love.”
Christina Aguilera & Rockettes to Open NBA All-Star Game
Aguilera did not give a release timeframe for her next full-length, but said of the project, “I just have to make sure it’s right, and it’s genuine and it’s heartfelt, and I’m very excited to pour my heart out into this record fully. I’ve been gathering and writing and coming up with these amazing ideas for different parts of how I was feeling the past year, so I’m really excited to vocalize all of it and make it all come together.”
Aguilera, who is opening the NBA All-Star Game with a special performance alongside the Rockettes on Feb. 15, will join Williams as a coach on The Voice for season 8, ending a two-season hiatus when the reality competition returns to NBC on Feb. 23. “Say Something” is nominated for best pop duo/group performance at the Grammys this year, while Williams’ latest solo effort, G I R L, is up for album of the year.
