Even as the Taliban claim they have captured Panjshir, the last part of Afghanistan that was still putting up a fight, reports say the locals are facing a major crisis with the resources drying up after being cut off from the rest of the country.

According to Tolo News, some Panjshir families that managed to reach Kabul have warned that the locals there are staring at a hunger crisis with all resources blocked.

The roads leading to Panjshir have been closed for weeks since the resistance forces gathered here to fight the Taliban after they took control of Kabul.

Electricity and telecom services have also been blocked in the area although the Taliban have declared that they have gained control over the den of the resistance forces led by Ahmad Massoud and Amrullah Saleh.

The report further said that a family who lost their son in the last battle in Panjshir, said that a humanitarian crisis is developing in the province. Shayesta Mehraban said, “The attacks and conflicts increased, people even escaped to the mountains.”

After capturing Panjshir, the Taliban had assured the people of the valley - who are ethnically distinct from the mainly Pashtun Taliban - that there would be no "discriminatory act against them".

Taliban spokesperson Anaamullah Samangani said, “The conditions are normal and under Taliban mujahideen in Panjshir. The accounts of massacres and torture of the people are not true. These are rumours.”

The Taliban had also assured the people of reconnecting Panjshir with the mainland. However, locals continue to remain cut off even days after the insurgents claimed they have captured the region.
