After almost two decades in show business, Christina Aguilera is finally finding her voice when it comes to family matters.

The musical powerhouse spoke out in the March issue of Latina magazine about her relationship with her estranged father – and the possible reconciliation that she’s more open to having now.

“I’ve talked about how rough things were for me, and I’m sure he’s heard it,” she told the magazine. “He can’t be thrilled about it. So maybe one day we can do lunch … I’m 31 years old now. Maybe it’s time.”

According to Latina, Aguilera last saw her father in 1999.

The singer, who has mostly refrained from talking about her personal life to the press, opened up in a 2009 interview with E! about the soured relationship, suggesting that her father was abusive to her and her sister, Rachel, when they were younger.

“Growing up, I did not feel safe,” she said at the time. “Feeling powerless is the worst feeling in the world. I turned to singing as an outlet.

“The pain at home is where my love for music came from.”

Her father, Fausto Aguilera,, a former army sergeant, has denied that abuse took place in his home.

“I never abused them in any way, and they know that,” he said in 2002, according to Us magazine.

“I’m sorry to have ever raised a hand to my wife, but it was never brutal like Ike and Tina Turner.”
