The main entrance to Grand Central Terminal was dedicated Monday in honor of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, the former First Lady who led a fight to preserve the historic hub.
Officials cut a ribbon and opened to the public The Jackie Kennedy Onassis Foyer, which features a plaque with a bronze relief of Onassis and two displays with digital slide shows.
One slide show recounts Onassis’ life and the other outlines the 101-year history of the terminal.
Onassis, preservationists and City Hall defeated a proposal to erect a skyscraper atop Grand Central, which was built in 1913.
A legal battle went all the way to the Supreme Court.
