Brighton and Hove Albion have appointed Chris Hughton as their new manager.

The former Newcastle and Norwich manager emerged as the clear front-runner for the post at the Amex Stadium on Tuesday night and was unveiled this morning.

Hughton has been out of work since being sacked by Norwich in April, after a disappointing spell at Carrow Road, but Brighton have identified him as the man to lead them away from trouble at the bottom of the Championship.

The Sussex club have been without a manager since former Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia resigned following a dreadful run of results.

The Finn only won three league games from 22 after his appointment in June and quit despite attempts by Brighton to change his mind.
