Aguilera and Britney go head-to-head in cola wars

This article is more than 23 years old

Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera are already millionaires but now the two of them have netted a staggering £115m to front what is set to be the biggest cola war in years.

Coca-Cola has signed New York pop star Christina Aguilera to star in a new TV advertising campaign for a fee reputedly worth £50m.

The deal follows last month's £65m contract between PepsiCo and Aguilera's arch-rival Spears, whose campaign for the rival cola brand broke during Sunday night's Oscar ceremony.

There is believed to be no love lost between the two pop divas who started their showbusiness careers together, appearing on a US Disney Channel show.

Coke's advertising campaign will break in the US this summer. Aguilera's debut single Genie in a Bottle was US number one for five weeks.

Spears is reportedly being paid £65m over a five-year period for promoting Pepsi.

The first of her adverts broke on Sunday during the Oscars coverage and featured US senator Bob Dole watching her performance.
