Archive Netflix UK Picks Up Exclusive Rights To MTV’s ‘Scream’, Sets October Premiere – TVWise

Netflix UK has acquired the exclusive UK streaming rights to MTV’s hour-long drama Scream, which is a sequel to the popular feature film series, TVWise has confirmed.
The show’s 10 episode first season will be available to stream for Netflix UK subscribers from Thursday October 1st.
Scream picks up after a cyber-bullying incident results in a brutal murder, which in turn stirs up memories of a killing spree from the past. A group of teens – with two old friends struggling to reconnect at its heart – become lovers, enemies, suspects, targets and victims of a killer who’s out for blood. The drama series is produced by Dimension TV and stars Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Carlson Young, Amadeus Serafini, John Karna, Connor Weil, Tracy Middendorf and Jason Wiles.
Despite linear competitors still claiming they are not a major threat, OTT services Netflix and Amazon have been more aggressive in pursuing first window on high-profiles U.S. series in recent years. While there have been occasions where Netflix has co-operated with traditional linear broadcasters (such as the much publicised C5/Netflix tie-up for Gotham), the streaming giant is looking for more exclusive titles to compliment their slate of original series, such as House Of Cards and Orange Is The New Black.
Notably, this is the second major deal that Netflix UK has agreed in the past 24 hours. Earlier today, TVWise reported that the UK arm of the streaming service had also agreed an exclusive deal with CBS Studios International for the UK rights to The CW’s period drama Reign. Both shows join a line-up of first run imports on Netflix UK that also includes Better Call Saul, Once Upon A Time, Pretty Little Liars, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia and The League.
