Reports of a rapidly changing world for unknown reasons underscore this gritty drama, a prequel to AMC's uber-popular "Walking Dead." The story is told through the lens of high school guidance counselor Madison Clark. The widowed mother is raising two children single-handedly and maintains a relationship with English teacher Travis Manawa, her apocalyptic partner. The challenge of blending their families is exacerbated by unforeseen chaos, and a necessary survival of the fittest takes hold. Zaki Hasan TheWrap This installment begins with a compelling hook, boo-hiss baddies lined up and the stage set for a suitably epic showdown with some degree of finality to it. Then again, maybe not. May 16, 2023 Full Review Chase Hutchinson Collider The show could still drop a bomb into all this again and fumble what it has going for it. However, if you’ve made it this far, Fear the Walking Dead continues to carve out just enough of its own identity to stick with the series for its closing chapter. Rated: B- May 9, 2023 Full Review Cameron Bonomolo ComicBook.com Whether it's a suspenseful sequence set on a waterlogged and walker-logged houseboat in a zombie-infested swamp, or watching Madison and Morgan scuffling in a figurative tug-o-war, it's a solid start to a season that gets better with each episode. Brett L What an atrocious ending to an atrocious show. This season yet again suffered from the same issues that the past 5 seasons have suffered from; 1. HORIIBLE writing/scripts 2. Bad acting 3. Forced and contrived stories and situations 4. Unnatural and corny character dialogue 5. No realism 6. Plot holes 7. Walkie-talkies 8. Stupid characters/character choices ... ...this list goes on and on and on. It was just bad folks. Seriously from season 4 episode 7 - season 8 episode 12, everything was BAD. Glad the show is done. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/04/24 Full Review Holly I am a walking dead mega fan, I’ve watched all the spin offs … but will someone please tell me how the eff this made it to tv! The kids and the adults acting was painful.. I basically wanted them all to die just so it ended and I could stop watching.. only pushed through in case the mentioned TWD! Rubbish from season 1 to the bitter end! Worst ending I have ever seen! I can’t belive how many hours I’ve wasted watching this 😭 all the cast apart from John were awful, and that includes Morgan.. moan moan moan! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/23/24 Full Review Wild B Wow. If a 1990s ai had written the last season of an excellent spinoff show, this is what it would have written. It was clunky, repetitive, nonsensical and by the end the only thing left I could do - other than actually hunting down and torturing the writers by making them sit with their feet in zombie gunk for the entrie duration of the episodes - was come here and get a bit ranty. I honestly thought my Adhd was playing up, because I couldn't follow the plot or beleive the story but apparently other people have also been monumentally underwhelmed by this utter and complete drivel that could have been acted better by a group of college drama students. If you HAVE to watch it, my advice to you is to watch until Morgan leaves in I think episode 806,red something, then skip to the final episode. Speaking of which the final episode is SO bad you'll probably have to check you're not accidentally watching a YouTube spoof. From the arrival of a cat that should have died years ago *because it's a cat* to the jedi robe clad reappearance of a dead character, it really couldn't be any more ludicrous. I'm usually pretty sad when a series ends but I honestly never want to see these characters ever again. Except maybe Morgan and Daniel, though the last scene with Daniel was so bad that it was funny. Rant over. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/24 Full Review Johann D. M DISASTROUS AND UNDERWHELMING!!! The last season of this show takes place seven years after the previous season and follows the characters now living on an island known as "PADRE". So it has finally ended, thankfully, but I expected at least a decent send-off. Instead, we get a nonsensical and disappointing plot that never decides where it really wants to go and changes their character motivations and decisions every now and then. With the first part focusing on Morgan and the second on Madison Clark, the season ends with a lot of unanswered questions and its characters splitting up after an underwhelming reunion between mother and daughter that we all expected since season 4. Everyone is just so unlikeable at this point. The decreasing quality of the show hurts it deeply and everything from the dialogues to the unexplainable plot is just terrible. Also just one kind-of-significant death: everyone else is extremely lucky or immortal. Sadly, it was a waste of time. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/20/24 Full Review georgiebrown2017 A This was so disappointing. It doesn't make any sense at all. Characters change their mind every two seconds. The good thing is that Morgan's story ended in the mid season finale. Almost every character is annoying and the bad acting OMG it's so bad at times. Nobody cared about what they were doing and it felt disrespectful to the audience that followed this showed for 8 seasons. And what's up with those reality TV revelation scenes. They were just weird and so bad directed that I laughed really hard most of the time. They ruined Madison and her story with this one. At least we got some kind of closure, but it felt rushed and really uninspired. A really really really bad season. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/24 Full Review John A A disappointing end to a show that never really did anything more than add some more context to the original show. The writing was especially terrible this season, almost to the point of incoherent, with self absorbed unlikable people always choosing the most destructive path with every option. But special mention for the terrible editing, which was choppy and jumped around to the point of being confusing and wondering if maybe you had missed an episode. The entire season should be called "Return of the Walking Dead" for bring back so many obviously deceased characters. It felt very much like Star Wars 9 or GoT Season 8.
