89% Tomatometer 9 Reviews 95% Audience Score 50+ Ratings Based on the best-selling novels by Robert Galbraith (aka J.K. Rowling), Tom Burke ("The Musketeers") stars as private detective Cormoran Strike, a former war veteran now working out of a cramped London office. Together with his assistant, Robin Ellacott, Cormoran tackles cases that have, so far, baffled the police. Though struggling with the psychological and physical toll that combat have wrought on him, Cormoran is well-equipped to delve into complex conundrums thanks to his background as a Special Investigation Branch investigator. Johanna Schneller Toronto Star It's Hercule Poirot for the new millennium, if Poirot lived above a seedy bar and sported stubble instead of a 'stache. Jul 2, 2018 Full Review Hugo Rifkind Times (UK) Tom Burke's Strike is the perfect lost genius posh boy and Holliday Grainger's Robin, his sidekick, is exactly as much in love with him as she needs to be to keep things ticking along. Mar 5, 2018 Full Review Sam Wollaston Guardian he return to Sunday nights of Robert Galbraith's thoroughly likable if unlikely private detective pairing is good news. They have about three quid in the company coffers, plus a soupcon of sexual chemistry. Rated: 3/5 Mar 5, 2018 Full Review Melissa Camacho Common Sense Media Ultimately, C.B. Strike is formulaic, and approaches investigations using old-fashioned smarts. But while it's not the most action-packed, it delivers an engaging adaptation of J.K. Rowling's stories that fans of good crime-solving tales will enjoy. Rated: 4/5 Feb 15, 2023 Full Review Alison Rowat The Herald (Scotland) A trick as old as Adam and Eve, but it still works. Jun 28, 2018 Full Review Euan Ferguson Observer (UK) Holliday Grainger, who plays Robin, and Tom Burke as private investigator Cormoran Strike are fast becoming the will-they-won't-they item de nos jours. Andrei D Still decent, little else Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/05/23 Full Review Nancy M Really good script and wonderful performances. Every season is must-see. Tom Burke has a strong screen presence. The plots are interesting and not at all predictable. We're hooked. Looking forward to season 6! And beyond… Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/06/23 Full Review Russell W Enjoying the will they/won't they. Sometimes that's more absorbing than the mystery itself. Good stuff. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/14/23 Full Review Peter C Completely gripping from the start really good character building, great series Not enough of them though!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/12/23 Full Review tom m A good cinematic depiction of J.K. Rowiing's (under the penname Robert Galbraith) series. The lead actors inhabit the roles quite well. I look forward to more seasons. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review arya s There is something very comforting, even nostalgic, in the ordinariness and the straightforwardness of this show, which means the stories are driven by plot and character and not cheap manipulations. Channeling a Raymond Chandler style brooding detective, Strike lives a spartan lifestyle, sleeping on a cot in his office. He doesn't have a gun or a car, so there are no obligatory shoot outs or car chase scenes. He doesn't even have one of his legs, which makes running after the bad guys with his prosthetic leg a challenge, which he often loses. But assisted by his lovely and devoted fearless partner, Strike solves his cases through his spot-on instincts and solid sense of self. Reticent and not especially witty, it is all the more moving when he does have moments of showing his deeper emotions. His very ordinary face and rumpled coat start to grow on you with each episode. A side benefit: a glimpse of lots of London pubs and restaurants. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
