      Season 1 – Camping

2018 Comedy TRAILER for Camping: Season 1 Featurette - The Mapping of Camping List
27% 51 Reviews Tomatometer 22% 100+ Ratings Audience Score Obsessively organized L.A. mom Kathryn plans a camping trip in honor of her husband Walt's 45th birthday, hoping the get-together with old friends lessens tension in their not-so-happy marriage. As they arrive at the underwhelming Brown Bear Lake site with Kathryn's meek sister, her holier-than-thou ex-best friend, and a free-spirited tagalong, the supposed delightful, back-to-nature camping trip quickly becomes a weekend of tested relationships, heightened emotions, and memories everyone would rather forget. Lena Dunham ("Girls") is among the series' writers and executive producers. Read More Read Less

      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

The first season of Camping makes it difficult to determine who the least happy campers are: those on the screen or those watching it.

Lucy Mangan Guardian The fact that the eight protagonists are pretty much relentlessly petty, stupid and childish makes it hard to invest in any of them. Rated: 2/5 Mar 7, 2019 Full Review Hugo Rifkind Times (UK) Dunham has always been a better dramatist than she is a humorist, but this leaves you fearing she has almost no sense of humour at all. A waste. Feb 1, 2019 Full Review Carol Midgley Times (UK) It was like drinking a flat, tepid lager shandy when you could have been having a row of Balkan vodka shots. Rated: 2/5 Feb 1, 2019 Full Review Alberto Carlos Espinof One is left with the impression that 'Camping' wants to be a great comedy, but can't. [Full Review in Spanish] Rated: 2/5 Mar 5, 2019 Full Review Lauren Carroll Harris The Monthly (Australia) Because neither Dunham nor Konner have the instinct to pierce their characters' jugulars, Camping becomes an accidental portrait of toxic femininity. Feb 14, 2019 Full Review Victoria Segal Sunday Times (UK) Instead of a wild weekend, this is another observational sitcom with a high cringe quota. Feb 4, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Sulamita G I finally found a bad project with David Tennent involved. Everyone’s acting was good, but the story is so cringe I want to wash it off my brain. I have no idea how they convinced DT and Jennifer Garner to be in this. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/05/24 Full Review Audience Member I loved this show. I love the characters and their crazy relationships with each other. I'm hoping Walt goes off on Kathryn before the end! On episode 7! Juliette Lewis is great as usual. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Hilarious, and bitter Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Show is brilliant. Only a low rating because people, yet again, fail to understand Lena's choosing of annoying personalities to cater to the hilarity. I guess you've gotta be a misanthrope to love Lena's character work, which is fine because I am. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member If not for Game of Thrones coming back for its final season, this would have been enough for me to drop HBO, entirely. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member What a terrible, terrible show. I don't know who approved this, but HBO should conduct a full and thorough investigation and get to the bottom of this. First things first, this should have been a 68 minute direct to dvd movie. This was a complete and utter rip off of so many other movies, it's not even funny. I desperately wanted this to be funny, and after watching the entire series I felt so violated and like I had just been robbed of my time, bandwidth and mental sanity.
